We are on a journey to Net Zero in Wales

Cartrefi Hydrogen Homes is a first step to help tackle how we reduce carbon emissions from the 26.4 million properties in Wales and England.

Over 85% of UK homes use natural gas for heating and cooking, which produces around a fifth of our total carbon emissions.

The project is a UK first, exploring how hydrogen – a cleaner, greener energy source – could be used to heat our homes in the future. The project looks at how existing homes can be easily retrofitted with appliances powered by 100% hydrogen, with minimal cost and disruption to you.

Decarbonising home heating is an essential step for Wales and the rest of the UK reaching its Net Zero targets, and we are committed to being part of the solution.
